Karen is the owner and managing broker of KL Realty, and has more than 29 years of experience in the Boulder County real estate market. She completed an MBA in finance at the University of Colorado (CU), Boulder, and then obtained her stockbroker’s license and worked in finance before founding KL Realty in 1988. With her business background, Karen specializes in providing clients with sound buying/selling financial advice, and has a knack for structuring creative transactions. Karen’s level of expertise and ingenuity has led to her handling some of the largest and most complex real estate transactions in the area.

John grew up in southern Africa and obtained a degree in civil engineering from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. After working as an engineering consultant, he ran a construction company for 15 years before immigrating to the U.S. The skills acquired from his years in the engineering industry add to the diverse capabilities of the KL team and provide clients with an expert on board when dealing with complicated inspection issues. John also owned, operated and guided a photographic safari operation in Zimbabwe, and is an excellent photographer.
A Colorado resident since 1991, Holly earned a degree in biology from Colorado State University (CSU), Fort Collins. A lifelong horse enthusiast, she was a veterinary assistant for a local equine clinic and has extensive knowledge of the rural and equestrian community. She brings her expertise of the area’s animal community to the KL team. Holly also worked in the human medical field, and thus is practiced at excellent client communication and service where accountability and efficiency are essential.
Janice has worked with Karen at K L Realty since 2004. Prior to her real estate career, she managed portfolio analysis for an investment firm in California. She holds a BA in Art History from The University of California, Los Angeles and a MBA with an emphasis in finance from the University of Southern California. In the past, she also held a license as a Registered Real Estate Appraiser, which is very useful in conducting Market Evaluations. Married with two college-age children, she can often be seen walking her Siberian Husky around the Paul Nor Estates neighborhood in East Boulder.
Mike has been in Colorado most of his life and obtained a degree in Information Technology during his career as an IT Network Architect. After the dot com tech bubble ended in 2000, Mike became interested in real estate as a buy and hold investment, remodeling and managing several properties at a time. With over 20 years of experience in property management, Mike is always excited to share valuable insight into the Denver/Boulder area real estate market.
Scott was born and raised in Chicago. He earned both his BA as well as his JD from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fl. For over 20 years Scott practiced law as a trial lawyer. He went on to mediate hundreds of cases, many involving real estate law. Scott is a big believer in the benefits of mediation as a way to resolve differences between two parties. Several years ago Scott, and his wife Cindy, relocated to Colorado. Cindy is a lifelong horse enthusiast and long ago she introduced Scott to the world of horses. Scott’s legal background, as well as his years of experience as a mediator, make him uniquely qualified to help buyers and sellers come together to make a deal that works for both parties. Scott and his wife currently live on a horse farm in Boulder County.
As a longtime resident of Allenspark, Rob specializes in mountain- and rural property real estate. His unique background enables him to assist clients buying or selling properties ranging from a one room cabin to a full section ranch.
Ellen is the newest member of the KL Team. She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and a Master’s in Biomedical Science focusing on Livestock and Equine Reproductive Technologies. Currently a resident of Wellington, CO, she brings a passion for rural real estate and a keen understanding of the unique needs of ranchers, equestrians, and hobby farmers alike. In her free time, you can find Ellen on a trail-ride with friends, working cattle with local ranchers, or exploring the mountains with her husband and two dogs.
