Accidents happen. One moment things are moving along just fine; life is routine, and everyone is relaxed. But in a split second life can be changed by an event unanticipated. In our case over the weekend it was a horse kick to the head and chest. Nobody saw it happen but, fortunately, there were many of us around. The casualty was knocked unconscious and was taken to the ER rooms after some first-class first responder treatment. We now have video from a monitoring camera of the event and all the cuts and bruises can be explained. It could have been worse: two hooves of a 1400 lb horse flipping a 135 lb person six feet through the air in a half-somersault could easily have been fatal. In the blink of an eye.
